How to fill the empty slots in your calendar – 7 ideas for quiet days

24 October 2026

Every business has these hours: Tuesday morning, Wednesday noon, the week after the holidays. The chair is free, the rent is paid anyway, and every empty hour is income that won't come back. Most fixes need no advertising – they're already in your client list.

1. Remind clients it's time

A client who colours every 5 weeks doesn't always notice that 7 have passed. A gentle reminder ("Hi, time for your next colour?") with a booking link brings back clients who would have come anyway – just sooner, and into the hours you need.

2. Reach out to clients who didn't come back

Every client list has dozens of people who haven't come in two or three months. They didn't necessarily leave – they just didn't think of it. A short personal message to clients who agreed to receive messages is the cheapest way to bring them back.

3. A waitlist

When the busy hours are full, clients who didn't find a slot join a waitlist. When an hour opens up, they're the first to hear. That way a last-minute cancellation doesn't stay an empty hour.

4. Birthdays

A birthday greeting (with or without a small treat) is a message clients are happy to get – and it often ends in a booking.

5. Let clients see there's room

Many clients don't call because they're sure you're full. A booking page that shows free times – and a "free today" mark in search – brings exactly the people looking for a slot right now.

6. Courses and punch cards

A client who bought a card of 6 treatments books them over the months, quiet days included. It's also income that arrives up front.

7. Check the numbers

A busy-hours report shows when the calendar is full and when it's empty – so you know when to send reminders, when to take days off, and maybe when to change opening hours.

How it works in Lumi

  • "Time for your next visit": an automatic reminder based on how often each client returns
  • A "clients who didn't come back" list and a message in one tap (only to those who agreed)
  • A waitlist that notifies by itself when a slot opens
  • Birthday greetings with wording ideas
  • A busy-hours report – when the calendar is full and when it's empty
